The Broomway (it was marked by brooms once; we’re not original), aka get-a-guide-or-die. Six miles across Maplin Sands featuring fast rising tides, mudflats, shifting creeks AND quicksand. It was the sole access, bar boat, to Foulness until 1932 and it's a killer. As in, 66 souls buried in Foulness churchyard, over 100 reported lost, god knows what the actual number is since it's earliest documentation is 1419 kind of killer.

I’m going to try it. With a guide I’m not silly. I know the idea itself is questionable, it’s just I’m afraid of water and it’s been annoying me too long. I figure something nice and drastic like this should fix it.

Last week I made it 20 yards down a slipway before I got scared and ran away.

I’m thinking of booking for July.

Fancy giving it a go? You'll be paying for my services up front as you clearly have no sense of self preservation but... https://www.walkingclub.org.uk/walk/the-broomway-and-foulness-island/
