I hate to break it to you, but you know how your business is like your baby? Yeah well, it’s just like your baby. You’re in love with it, other people aren’t.
They don’t want to read pages of packed copy on your website any more than they want to look at a camera reel full of near identical baby photos on your phone.
Cut your copy. I know, big ask. It’s hard to let go of the idea that overexplaining is the way forward. But it's all pretty pointless if people can’t find the key takeaways fast.
So let’s take it slow and start with your landing page. Three things you can do that’ll cut your word count.
Be absolutely cynical about each line. Does it answer either, ‘who, what, or how?’ If not, cut it.
That's taken care of the extras. Where have you made the same point two different ways? Get it down to one sentence.
Next, one line at a time, figure out how to say it faster. Do that.
Now smooth the edges.
The only purpose of your landing page is to tell people who you are and what you do.
Does it do it better now?
